Book two-hundred-and-thirty-one: It Must Be Love

It Must Be Love (2000)
Rachel Gibson

Rating: 2.5/5

Good, except the whole Him Dating Someone Else While Also Dating Her thing.

Undercover cop Joe Shanahan's bad luck hit bottom the morning he stared up into the face of sexy suspect Gabrielle Breedlove. She'd blown his cover---brought him down with a can of hairspray---and now his new assignment was to pose as her boyfriend. But spending as much time as possible with the utterly irresistible New Age beauty caused unexpected complications. To make matters worse, his matchmaking sisters are picking out china patterns.

Joe's brooding good looks and T-shirt-straining muscles might be easy on the eyes, but how could Gabrielle be attracted to a straight-laced detective who's determined to find evidence to arrest her? Still, he invades her dreams and when they share a transcendent lovemaking experience, Gabrielle knows it must be love.

Book one-hundred-and-fifty-three: Tangled Up in You

Tangled Up in You (2007)
Rachel Gibson

Rating: 1.75/5

This read like a shopping list or stage directions or something. Although shopping list is probably most apt due to the number of designer names dropped in. (Can’t they just say sunglasses!! Car!! Its not that hard!).

Anyway, it was just a list of things that were going on. They walked here. They opened the fridge. They got out the bottle of wine. They found a glass. They poured it. They drank it. They walked back across the room. They did have any thoughts while this was going on.
It had an interesting premise… although I don’t know why she didn’t just tell him the truth from the start, but then I guess we wouldn’t have had a story so… anyway…

When Maddie Dupree enters Hennessy’s Bar in Truly, Idaho, she isn’t looking for a husband, a boyfriend, or even just a drink. She’s looking for the truth about her past, and nothing will stand in her way. Especially not a Hennessy boy.

Everyone knows Mick Hennessy is irresistible. So far, he’s managed to keep the ladies in line, but when he claps eyes on gorgeous Maddie, he just can’t help getting involved. But Maddie’s keeping secrets about why she’s in town – and when those secrets are revealed, there’ll be a whole lot of trouble in Truly…

Book-one-hundred-and-twenty-eight: Daisy’s Back in Town

Daisy’s Back in Town (2004)
Rachel Gibson

Rating: 2/5

The whole plot is based on the fact that fifteen years ago she picked on of her best friends over the other; I just kept wondering why she had to pick either…

Daisy Monroe’s back in town – and one person in Lovett, Texas can’t forget it.

He loves her.

Jackson Lamott Parrish thought he’d seen the back of her when she ran off with his best friend years ago. He vowed then he’d never let a woman get close to him again, and he’s been breaking hearts ever since.

He loves her not…

But Daisy has a secret, one she can only confess to Jackson. So why is he the one person staying well out of her way?

He loves her?

An absolute roller-coaster of a romance, this is an addictive novel from Rachel Gibson about what happens when you fall in love… with the boy next door.

Book-one-hundred-and-twenty-six: Sex, Lies and Online Dating

Sex, Lies and Online Dating (2006)
Rachel Gibson

Rating: 2/5

Opps. I fell off the no book buying wagon. That didn’t take long…

Anyway, this is alright, but not that much really happens. And the main character makes a couple of really stupid mistakes for someone who is supposed to be something of a expert on crime.

HE’S the undercover cop on the hunt for a female serial killer… who’s not expecting to lose his heart.
SHE’S the thriller writer researching her next book, who doesn’t realise she’s under surveillance… by Mr Right..

When Quinn McIntyre has to pose as an internet dater to woo the chief suspect in a murder case, the last thing on his mind is falling in love.
But Lucy Rothschild just doesn’t seem the killing kind – does she?
Before too long, and against all his better instincts, Quinn finds he could be getting in too deep.

An addictive novel about how the last person you should get involved with… could be the first person you fall for.

Book one hundred: Simply Irresistible

Simply Irresistible (2007/1998)
Rachel Gibson

Rating: 3/5

One hundred books? Really? I think I read too much…

I’m really enjoying the Little Black Dress reprints of all these great books: they have great covers and are only $9.95 (or even cheaper if you get them from somewhere like Kmart).

I really liked this because rather than constantly referring to something that happened in the past, you actually get to spend the first third of the book reading about it.

Some temptations you shouldn’t even try to resist… When Georgeanne Howard runs away from her ageing-but-loaded fiancĂ©, she’s rescued by a knight in a shining red Corvette – hell-raising hockey star John Kowalsky. She can’t help falling for him , but after a passionate fling John splits, leaving Georgeanne broken-hearted.

Seven years later, John’s thinking about settling down when he bumps into Georgeanne – now catering queen of Seattle and single mum to a little girl. His little girl. John wants in on their life but Georgeanne’s not convinced. Should she risk her heart again?

Book seventy-seven: The Trouble with Valentine’s Day

The Trouble with Valentine’s Day (2007/2005)
Rachel Gibson

Rating: 2.5/5

Very sweet – especially the grandfather and the poetry readings. It did have a couple of instances of background dumping, but they are forgiven because they were kind of needed.

I didn’t realise that this was written by the same author as I’m in No Mood for Love when I was reading it. Which I guess is a good thing. They were different enough that I didn’t connect them. I liked this one better, though – its plot isn’t as wandering.

Valentine's Day sucks. And this year it's worse than usual for Kate Hamilton as she tries to seduce a handsome stranger in a motel bar -- only to find out he, unfortunately, has other ideas!

Escaping from embarrassment to her grandfather's tiny town of Gospel, Ohio, she's determined to relax and enjoy some good, clean, small-town fun. What she's not expecting is a reunion with Mr Handsome Stranger, aka Rob Sutter, who, it just so happens, lives in the town.

But then Rob and Kate find themselves in an compromising position in the local store after hours, giving the phrase "clean-up in aisle five" a whole new meaning and, in the process, causing a whole lot of gossip in Gospel!

Book fifty-four: I’m In No Mood For Love

I’m In No Mood For Love* (2006)
Rachel Gibson

Rating: 1.75/5

Alright.

What is Clare Wingate doing? One minute she’s suffering in a pretty-in-pink gown she’ll never wear again, and the next thing she knows it’s morning… and she has the nastiest hangover of her life.

To make matters worse, she’s wearing nothing but a sprtiz of Excada and lying next to Sebastian Vaughan… her childhood crush turned sexy, globe-hoping journalist. Somewhere between the toast and the toss of the bouquet she’d gotten herself into a whole lot of trouble.

Clare had the right go wild – after all, she’d been knocked off her dyed-to-match shoes after finding her own fiancĂ© in a comprising position with the washing machine repairman. Clearly her society wedding is off.

But Sebastian pushed all the wrong buttons – and some of the right ones, too. Clare is in no mood for love – no even for lust – and wants to forget about Sebastian and his six-pack abs ASAP. But he isn’t in the mood to go away, and his kiss is impossible to forget.

Most annoying thing: too many brand names. “Clare walked barefoot across the parking lot and tanked God her [expensive car brand] was exactly where she recalled leaving it the day before… Sebastian had looked like he belonged on a billboard selling [expensive jean]’s…she covered her eyes with her gold [designer sunglasses].” And that is all just from one little-bitty paragraph.

The constant mentioning of brand names (why can’t they just say car, billboard, sunglasses instead?) takes you out of the story and makes you why the hell they are brand dropping like crazy. Are they getting paid some kind of endorsement fee? Why else would they bother?

I would say they were trying to build the character of a spoilt rich-girl who thinks of everything in terms of brand (which would have made some sense). But every character you heard from was like that.
